Anxiolytics

​

Valium or other similar drugs might be prescribed by our endodontists before a procedure in order to keep your mind calm and relaxed as you come to our office. As the medication can temporarily impair your motor skills and reflexes for a few hours, if you use this option, it is required that you come to our office escorted by a responsible adult. This should be someone you trust to ensure your safe transportation to and from the appointment and to accompany you for four hours afterwards.

Nitrous Oxide

Also called, "laughing gas," nitrous oxide is a mild and short-term form of sedation dentistry. Using a small, comfortable nose mask, you will inhale the gas while being closely monitored and cared for by our specialists. Once the doctor has adjusted the flow of gas to the optimal concentration and dosage, insuring you are getting the optimal benefit from it, you will feel calm and comfortable, and the retreatment can begin. Once finished, the nitrous oxide will be turned off and you will receive pure oxygen for a few minutes. The effects wear off quickly, and you can quickly resume your regular level of activity immediately afterwards. You are even able to drive yourself home from the treatment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

If you want a deeper sedation treatment for a pain-free root canal experience, oral conscious sedation is a good option. You will be prescribed a pill which is to be taken before the procedure. This leaves you feeling calm and relaxed but able to respond and comply with questions and requests from our team. For many patients, this treatment has an amnesic affect that stops them from remembering the procedure later.

IV Sedation

Intravenous, or IV sedation, is given to a patient using a needle directly into the vein. It is a fast, effective solution that is safe and nearly painless. A dental anesthesiologist will be brought in to sedate you and carefully monitor your vitals during your endodontic treatment. Patients must have a trustworthy escort with them to arrange for safe travel home. They should also be with you for six hours following the treatment.
